The government have launched an initiative
to identify and penalise employers who ignore employee rights
and abuse vulnerable workers. The scheme allows various government
departments and enforcement agencies to share information with
a view to facilitate catching rogue employers.
The government will launch an information helpline and a £6
million information campaign to raise awareness of employment
rights and how to enforce them. Some of the issues included will
be minimum wage, health and safety, employment agencies and gangmasters.
According to Employment Relations Minister and Forum Chair,
Pat McFadden there are three million more people in work in Britain
than there were a decade ago. Minimum standards have been introduced
in that time relating to wages, paid leave, maternity leave and
conditions have been put in place. The government is working
to ensure they are properly adhered to.
