A test case being heard at the European
Court of Justice may prohibit employers from requiring workers
to retire at the age of 65, if the ruling finds forced retirement
on the grounds of age discriminatory.
Presently, the compulsory age of retirement is 65 or older.
This may soon be eradicated if the European Court of Justice
deems an upper age limit a form of unfair conduct in the workplace.
Many UK workers have been forced to retire against their will.
Seventy-five percent of requests to postpone retirement have
been accepted however, since this right was implemented in October
2006.
