The government have announced radical reforms
of the tribunal system to be rolled out in November of this year. The
new system will, they claim, speed up justice and greatly simplify
the existing tribunal process.
The changes involve the introduction of a two tiered system,
integrating five new chambers in the first tier and three chambers
in the ‘upper tier’. Employment
and Employment Appeal tribunals will not be included, and neither
will the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, although the government
is expected to consult on the latter.
The first tier chambers are Social Entitlement, General Regulatory,
Health, Education and Social Care, Taxation, and Land, Property
and Housing. The three Upper Tribunal Chambers are Administrative
Appeals, Lands, and Finance and Tax.
