A new element to the practical driving
test was introduced on 10th September 2008, to encourage more
fuel-efficient and eco-friendly driving on the roads. New
drivers will now receive advice on how to save fuel and cut emissions
as part of their test.
This comes as part of the government’s investment of an extra £3million
to promote techniques that save fuel and costs. The techniques include
simple steps such as ensuring the boot is de-cluttered, the tyres are pumped
up and revs are kept low by early gear changes. Advice will also be given
on how to save money and up to 3 months worth of fuel when buying a new, more
fuel-efficient car.
On the practical driving test, examiners will provide feedback
regarding how green the candidate’s driving was. They
will not, however, be able to pass or fail a candidate based
on this assessment.
