House Prices Down, Repossessions Up
The first quarter 2008 statistics showed a 17 percent increase in the
number of homes repossessed compared to this time last year. The figures,
issued by the Ministry of Justice, also reflected a 9% increase since the
last quarter of 2007.

Pensions Scheme Changes
A survey carried out by the British Chamber of Commerce has revealed that
the majority of employers are unaware of major reforms of workplace pension
schemes. The new Pensions Bill legislates that by 2012 all employees must
be automatically enrolled into a qualifying pension provision.

Temporary Workers Get More Rights
The government has announced plans for legislation to bring the rights
of temporary workers into line with their permanent counterparts. The legislation,
which is due this autumn, is a result of recent agreements between the
government and the Trade Union Congress and Confederation of British Industry.

Two Tiered Tribunal System Announced
The government have announced radical reforms of the tribunal system to
be rolled out in November of this year. The new system will, they claim,
speed up justice and greatly simplify the existing tribunal process.

Biggest Consumer Law Shake Up For 40 Years
A set of new legislations have recently been introduced to protect consumers
against unfair trading. The worst offenders could face fines of up to £5,000
or a prison sentence of up to 2 years if they are prosecuted by the regulating
bodies – the Office of Fair Trading and the Trading Standards Authority.
