New Act comes into force bringing tough
penalties
The Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008, which comes into
force on Friday, will introduce stringent new workplace rules
regarding safety issues. Employers are being urged to pay close
attention to their responsibilities as failure to do so may result
in a jail sentence of up to two years.

The case before them, MacLeod v MacLeod, was a fiercely contested
divorce case between a multi-millionaire property tycoon and
his wife, whom he met when she was a student.

Repeal of the statutory dispute resolution procedures
All employers will be aware of the practical problems which
have been caused since the introduction of the statutory dispute
resolution procedures in October 2004. Although they were introduced
with the intention of reducing the number of disputes which eventually
found themselves in the Employment Tribunals, this has not happened.
